Skylark Learning has already been busy this year with a range of exciting events. Since the start of 2017, we have visited a number of inspiring toy and nursery fairs and seminars.
The team travelled to London for the Toy Fair and were wowed by the impressive range of new products on show. We noticed a number of high-tech products emerging for older children, and for younger children/babies the focus was very much on functional toys with educational elements. We also met fellow designers and distributors who were impressed with our products. Our Product Development Manager, Donna, attended the Nursery World Show in London where she listened to fascinating talks from Professors Clancy Blair and Cybele Raver on Self-Regulation in the Early Years. Penny Tassoni provided an interesting insight into Stimulating Activities & Resources for Babies, and Julian Grenier spoke about Strategies to Develop Autonomy & Self-Regulation. These topics are particularly relevant to our new multisensory resource, My First Emotions, which aims to teach these lessons with the help of Robbie the rabbit, who can tuck different emotions into his pouch at different times. Of course, Robbie had to come and have a look at the Fairs with us too. My First Emotions is coming soon! Subscribe to our newsletter and we’ll let you know when My First Emotions is available to purchase. You will also receive a discount code to purchase My First Emotions for £49 (RRP £69).
CEO Alexey attended the second day of the Nursery World Show where he participated in a masterclass on language development between birth and 3 years featuring Dr Danielle Matthews and Alice Sharp. Skylark English is an amazing multisensory toolkit designed for learning English at home, click here for further information and to purchase your own set.
Our Marketing Manger, Samantha, attended the Spring Fair 2017 in Birmingham and listened to an interesting talk from notonthehighstreet.com, while Donna, and Product Strategy Director Svetlana, also attended two seminars organised by PEDAL (the Centre for Research on Play in Education, Development and Learning) at Cambridge University. One featured Professors Blair and Kathy Sylva looking at Play and Self-Regulation; in the other, Dr Julie Kirkham presented on Pretence and Creativity in Childhood.
Up and coming
We believe the key to an effective resource is a good methodology; therefore it is important for us to stay up-to-date with the latest research in order to make great products. With this, we have many more events booked into the diary for the coming months. We are looking forward to attending the London Book Fair in March, alongside the estimated 25,000 publishing professionals which the prestigious event attracts. If you will be there, we would love to say Hi, and don’t forget to look out for Skylark and Robbie!
We will also be attending the International Nursery Fair in Harrogate at the end of March; it will be our first time there, so we are looking forward to seeing what is on offer, as well as attending some of their renowned seminars.
Do you have an exciting event on early learning or parenting that we should attend? Please contact us and let us know – we’d love to hear more about it.
