Learning English: Games for children
The Nibble Monster. 6m+
1. In advance, create a friendly-looking sock puppet, by sticking/sewing something to act as eyes onto an old, long sock. You could also add other decoration (eg hair, a mouth). Alternatively, you could use the Skylark puppet from the Skylark English set and use the name ‘Skylark’ in place of ‘the nibble monster’.
2 Introduce your child to the sock puppet. Say: “This is the nibble monster. He’s hungry. He likes to eat.”
3 Say: “The nibble monster likes to eat … [add the plural English word].” For example: “The nibble monster likes to eat knees.” For hair, say: “The nibble monster likes to eat hair.”
4 Make the puppet nibble at the named body part and say: “Nibble! Nibble! Nibble!” Do it quickly. It’s ok if it tickles the child.
5 You can also turn the sock puppet on yourself and make it nibble parts of your body to make your child laugh.
