It is meant to be for 0-3 but you could use it for a 5-year-old. The basic principles of talking about emotions and validating emotions will be very good for a 5-year-old, and using the cards to make stories, and playing with the emotion toys will still be of interest to them. I have found that even much older children have fun playing with the emotion toys and making up stories in which characters have different emotions.
